Regional Update – 6/26/2015

Dear CDR/NCR Friends,

Throughout the Capital District and North Country regions, Special Olympics serves thousands of athletes. Many of them influence us to do better, work harder and think positively within our own lives. Whether it is their sportsmanship on the field or their sense of humor on the ride home from practice, every athlete inspires us in their own way. One athlete in particular has touched the lives of many people both on and off the basketball court with her contagious positive energy and her love for sports. Her name is Trudy Davis and she is an athlete on the Canton Shamrocks basketball team in Area 27/ North Country Region. Please take a moment and watch the video below that highlights Trudy’s experience as a Special Olympic athlete. She is a fantastic representation of a Special Olympic success story and the ideal role model for the thousands of athletes that compete within our organization. Get inspired!

CONCUSSION TRAINING INFORMATION

Recently mandated by Special Olympics International, ALL coaches, volunteers and chaperones will need to complete the concussion training found here before the end of 2015. Due to the increase of concussions among athletes, it is imperative that all those directly working with our athletes are trained and certified by CDC. Please note that you must provide the Special Olympics NY staff with a copy (electronic or paper) of the certificate of completion at the conclusion of your training. Please contact Rachel or Ryan with any questions or concerns.

On Saturday, May 23rd, local Special Olympics programs were hosted by St. Lawrence University at the DIII Track & Field National Championships. Athletes from the North Country Region participated in heats of their own to showcase the partnership between Division 3 colleges and their Special Olympics programs. Congratulations to all who competed and a HUGE thank you to St Lawrence University and the NCAA DIII Track and Field Programs for offering this opportunity to our athletes!

THANK YOU LETR OF THE NORTH COUNTRY REGION!

THANK YOU TIME WARNER CABLE!
Thank you to Time Warner Cable and the Mohawk Golf Club for hosting such an incredible Golf tournament on June 22nd. We had 144 golfers that came to show their support for Special Olympics NY. With their help, our organization was able to raise nearly $37,000, which will provide equipment, trainings, uniforms, travel expenses and so much more to our Special Olympic athletes! Thank you to all!
