More than 1,100 athletes and coaches to compete in the Fall Games The Special Olympics New York (SONY) 2005 and 2006 Fall Games are coming to Binghamton. This year’s games will be held October 7th through the 9th in Binghamton, NY. Fall Games are among the largest of more than 400 SONY competitions held across New York each year.
The Opening and Closing ceremonies will be held at the Event Center at Binghamton University.
“Binghamton University is proud to host the opening and closing ceremonies for the 2005 New York State Special Olympics Fall Games,” said BU President Lois DeFleur. “Our new Events Center will provide an outstanding venue for celebrating the athletes’ achievements and for recognizing the commitment and support of their families, their coaches, and the many Special Olympics volunteers.”
Athletes will compete in eight Olympic-style events including: bocce, cross-country running, cycling, equestrian, golf, roller skating, soccer and softball.
“Binghamton is going to be a great host for the Fall Games this year, and without a doubt next year as well,” said Neal J. Johnson, President and C.E.O. of Special Olympics New York. “The entire community has welcomed us with open arms and is going to make it an incredible experience for our athletes.”
