Special Olympics New York Invites You to Join the SONA Move Challenge
Registration for the SONA Move Challenge has officially opened! If you participated in our at-home and off-the-field seasons over the past months, this is the event for you.
Who can participate?
Special Olympics New York athletes can compete individually. The fun part is, athletes from other Special Olympics state chapters (and even other countries!) will be participating as well. You’ll get to compete against them all.
We’re also looking for traditional and Unified pairs and teams of 3-10. Just be sure your teams are at least 25% athletes and 25% Unified partners.
What is it?
A great opportunity to stay in shape and train from home (all while having fun doing it). The SONA Move Challenge is an 8-week event designed to see how many minutes of exercise participants can complete each week.
When is it?
Now! Registration began August 1 and closed September 5. The challenge itself will run from September 13th to November 7th.
Where is it?
Wherever you’d like! So long as you can safely get some minutes of exercise, you can join the SONA Move Challenge from just about anywhere, inside or out.
Why should I try it?
This is your chance to meet and compete against athletes from different states and countries, along with your friends in New York. It’s also an excellent supplement to Fall Sports training. And did we mention the prizes?
Every participant receives a Special Olympics NY brand t-shirt. Also, 100 random participants who complete the first four weeks will get a Special Olympics NY brand duffel bag. Best of all, 10 random participants who complete all 8 weeks will get a FitBit!
How do I compete?
Just track how many minutes you exercise each week. Every Monday, submit your minutes, then check the leaderboards to see how you compare.
