STATEMENT BY SPECIAL OLYMPICS NEW YORK PRESIDENT & CEO STACEY HENGSTERMAN ON FEDERAL FUNDING

 “It has been an emotional 48 hours for the Special Olympics community here in New York and across the country. It’s hard when we see actions that make us feel like our work is not being understood or valued. Throughout history, this has often been the case for people with intellectual disabilities.

“As a state and a country, however, we have made so much progress toward inclusion. We proved that this week, and that’s what we are feeling today. We are humbled, proud, and inspired by the way our athletes were so immediately embraced and supported by our fans in every sector.

“Together as a community of millions, the Special Olympics family stood together and showed the world what it means to #BeUnified.”
