New York Jets and Special Olympics New York to Launch High School Unified Flag Football League in New York City
The New York Jets, in partnership with Special Olympics New York, have announced the launch of a High School Unified Flag Football League in New York City. The league will kick off with a clinic on September 24, 2024, bringing together athletes with and without intellectual disabilities to compete and celebrate the spirit of inclusion and teamwork.
Special Olympics Unified Sports® joins individuals with and without disabilities (known as Unified partners) on the same team. Dedicated to promoting social inclusion through shared sports training and competition experiences, it was inspired by a simple principle: training together and playing together is a quick path to friendship and understanding.
Eight teams representing New York City high schools will attend the clinic and compete in the inaugural season that will culminate this November with a championship tournament at MetLife Stadium.

Each team will receive uniforms, footballs, flag belts, and practice jerseys along with grants to help off-set any costs associated with participating. The Jets and Special Olympics New York hope this league serves as a pilot for New York City to offer Unified Flag Football as an official sport for all high schools in the future. The Jets will look to expand and add teams to the league in 2025.
This past Spring the New York Jets and Special Olympics New Jersey launched a High School Unified Flag Football League in New Jersey with four high schools and will look to expand the league in 2025.
