Special Olympics New York Selected As 2024-25 Grantee of the Mother Cabrini Health Foundation
$100,000 in Funding Will Expand Access to Health Screenings and Programs for People with Disabilities
Albany, NY – Special Olympics New York is pleased to partner with a new ally in the field of health. Thanks to a generous grant from the Mother Cabrini Health Foundation, the nonprofit sports organization can expand funding for transportation, facility cost, and incentives at their biggest competitions.
This $100,000 grant will address transportation costs to all three of 2025’s State Games competitions (Winter, Summer, and Fall), along with Special Olympics NY’s annual floorball competition at the Javits Center in New York City. These events are ideal for hosting large-scale health programming, since athletes from around the state can enjoy baseline screenings and referrals, free of charge.
“Here at Special Olympics NY, we know the best competitors are healthy competitors,” said Special Olympics NY President & CEO Stacey Hengsterman. “We’re fortunate to have found a partner in the Mother Cabrini Health Foundation that agrees. We thank them for this generous grant.”
“We are deeply honored by the wide-ranging impact of our work and by the dedication of our grantees across New York State,” said Msgr. Gregory Mustaciuolo, Chief Executive Officer of the Mother Cabrini Health Foundation. “We’re inspired by the compassionate legacy of Mother Frances Cabrini, as this year marks a significant milestone in our grantmaking, as we surpassed $1 billion in grants since our founding. This moment fuels our commitment as a Foundation to look toward the future, where we will continue making bold investments in a healthier, more equitable future for all.”
In addition to covering transportation costs, Special Olympics NY will provide premium winter hats to the first 300 athletes who attend health screenings at their upcoming State Winter Games in Rochester.
