Ron Ward
“When I joined Special Olympics NY, it changed my life. I am grateful to have met so many people that I love and cherish. As the Statewide ALC Chair, my role will be to help others, spread the word about how awesome Special Olympics New York is, and show how we can make a difference around the world.”
Ronald Ward, of Tonawanda, joined Special Olympics New York as an athlete when he was just 8 years old. Now in his 40s, Ron has settled on bocce as his favorite sport, though he also currently competes in bowling, floorball, softball and basketball. His favorite Special Olympics moment was winning three gold medals in one Track & Field competition. Being part of the Athlete Leadership Council first at the local level in Western New York and now at the statewide level is a close second, Ron says.
Ron stays active in fundraising and advocacy for Special Olympics New York at every opportunity, participating in events with Law Enforcement Torch Run (LETR) partners, taking the Polar Plunge, and completing certification as a Special Olympics Health Messenger.
Outside of Special Olympics, Ron’s proudest achievements include passing his driver’s test to get his license and getting his own apartment in Tonawanda. He spends his free time with friends and family
